API Product changes

The following outlines the API product updates introduced in this release, including changes, deprecations, and smaller new features.

Default Activity size

From v2026.2.LTS, Activities support a default maximum of 300 Items. This limit applies across authoring and delivery, including the Author API, Data API, and Items API, for standard Activities and random by group Activities.
Activities exceeding the maximum will not save in the Author or Data API and will not initialize in the Items API. Before upgrading, review your existing Activities and split any that exceed this limit into smaller Activities where possible.

How frequently does Learnosity release new versions?

As an agile company, Learnosity releases new versions of our products extremely regularly - in fact, in most cases, we're pushing out new features and functionality on a biweekly basis!

\n

While we maintain full backwards compatibility with every new release - for production systems, we strongly recommend using a Long Term Support (LTS) version.

\n

Long Term Support (LTS)

\n

Every four months, we release a major milestone release, to better match our customers’ development cadence. Every February, June and October, we release production-ready versions of our APIs that will be supported for two years. This applies across all of our core APIs.

\n

Long Term Support releases are robust, complete, and stable and should be used for:

\n

  • \nPlatforms in production.
    • \n
  • \nProjects in development, going live before our next Long Term Support release.
    • \n
\n

Developer (non-LTS)

\n

Every two weeks, for our APIs, we ship new code to production. This can be new features, in-development features, or bug fixes since the last \"developer\" release, etc. These releases are bleeding edge, and should be used for:

  • \nNew projects in development, targeting our next Long Term Support releases (see below).
    • \n
  • \nProof of Concept code, taking advantage of forthcoming major releases.

When do LTS versions go end of life (EOL)?

\n

LTS versions have a sixteen-month lifespan for general security updates, performance updates and bug fixes. After which, they will only receive critical bug, security, or performance updates until their end-of-life date (24 months from the initial release).

After that, they transition into an End of Life (EOL) phase.

As of July 2022, Learnosity has renamed the \"latest\" version, now calling it the \"developer\" version.

\n

The new \"developer\" name better communicates the nature of this version, which is on the cutting edge of new feature updates created by Learnosity engineering.

\n

This version should only be used during development of a new app with Learnosity, and never applied to an app in production. The components inside the developer version will change often, usually every two weeks, and will contain experimental features that are currently in active development.

\n

For production use, always select a Long Term Support (LTS) version, as these are stable, well tested, and the feature set inside is guaranteed to stay in place and unchanged for two years.

\n
